Modern life feeling a little too complicated? Then head on down to the 32nd annual Big Island Rendezvous and Festival in Albert Lea, held this year Oct. 6-7. Named one of the “Top Hundred Festivals in North America,” the Big Island Rendezvous celebrates working life from 1670 to 1870, with 1,000 re-enactors spread over 45 acres. Native American camps dot the woodlands; blacksmiths, woodworkers, silversmiths demonstrate and sell their wares in the pioneer town, and live music both days keeps toes tapping. Authentic vittles, a shooting competition, and a gold panning demo round out the full-body immersion into our not-so-distant past.
