Cannon Falls Welcomes You to Discover Our Treasures, Trails & Treats
By Cannon Falls Chamber of Commerce
The delightful town of Cannon Falls is a hidden gem tucked in the junction of the Big Cannon and Little Cannon rivers off Highway 52, halfway between the Twin Cities and Rochester. The city offers a variety of recreation, sports, shopping, dining and the kind of hometown service and hospitality that will make you want to return again and again.
One of Cannon Falls biggest draws is the Cannon Valley Trail. The Cannon Valley Trail is built on a former Chicago Great Western Railroad line connecting the cities of Cannon Falls, Welch and Red Wing. This paved bicycle and hiking trail is 19.7 miles of diverse and spectacular scenery. Paralleling the Cannon River, the Trail offers glimpses and panoramas of the valley and gradually descends 115 feet in elevation from Cannon Falls to Red Wing. The Trail is open year round for bicycling, in-line skating, skateboarding, similar wheeled recreational devices, hiking, walking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing.
Cannon Falls also boasts two campgrounds, water parks and more than 30 acres of parks and recreational facilities. Most of the parks are located along the Cannon River and are connected by the city’s paved recreational trail. Even the dog park is near the river! The parks are great for biking, skating, walking, picnicking, volleyball, softball, disc golf and more. Playground equipment, restrooms and picnic shelters are available at many of them.
Cannon Falls is not just trails and parks, though. The picturesque and historic downtown features boutiques, antique shops, gift shops and markets full of local produce and products. Your taste buds will love the fantastic selection of restaurants in the area. The bakery and coffee & ice cream shop have plenty of treats too. Spend the day discovering locally made treasures and enjoying a cup of coffee, cold treat, hearty meal or great pizza with friends and family. You can also stop into the Cannon River Winery or Tilion Brewing Company to taste their handcrafted wine or beer selections and enjoy their live entertainment and outside seating.
More interested in sports than shopping? Catch a Cannon Falls Bears game at one of the area’s finest parks, with comfortable seating and a full line of concessions available. (For the 2021 Bears season schedule, go to mnbaseball.org.) Play a round or two at one of the three area golf courses. Two of them are 27-hole courses, and the other is an 18-hole course. Cannon Falls also offers more than 40 horse-related events each year, including shows and sales for quarter horses, paints, saddlebreds and fjords, barrel racing, team roping and more.
Additionally, Cannon Falls offers many community events throughout the year: Open-Air Fairs, a Golf Tournament and Fundraiser, the Cannon Valley Fair, 4th of July Parade, Cannon Cruiser’s Car Cruise and a Halloween Trick-or-Treat Trot. The 26th Annual Deck the Falls events include fireworks, and our Light-up Cannon Falls event brightens up the streets all through the town over the holidays.
Come for a visit, stay for a weekend and get hooked by our warm and friendly charm. You are always welcome in Cannon Falls.
