Written by Brian Friel, directed by Peter Christian Hansen. Ireland in 1833 is at a moment of historic change and an ancient culture and language are about to be swept away. A national education system, with English as the official language, is to replace the rural, Irish-speaking, Classics-loving hedge-schools of the villages whose very names are to be Anglicized by the British dispatched to the area. Against this 19th-century backdrop, age-old stories of loyalty, conquest and tragic love unfold in all their beauty and heartbreak. Tickets: $10, available at 507-786-3332.
