Free Drive-In Concert
Promotes Bringing Community Together
by Grier Lawton
If you have missed the local music scene, want to support local musicians or are looking for a fun evening with friends, make your reservations now for a free, safe, and physically distanced drive-in concert.
The concert will be held on Sept. 20, from 4 to 7pm, in the parking lot of St. peter’s Lutheran Church in Northfield. Featured on stage will be popular groups Terry VanDeWalker & The RCAs and the Over & Back Band, with Beverage Men, an acoustic high school band, kicking it off. Rebound Hospitality (Archer House, Fairfield Inn, Reunion) and Merchants Bank (eight area locations) are sponsoring the event with Reunion fare on a limited, but sure-to-be-delicious, menu. Dinner, which you must order ahead, will be served carside from 5-6pm. Options and pricing will be sent upon registration.
Terry VanDeWalker & The RCAs (Rice County All- Stars), including Aaron Anderson, Aaron Hagenson, Jeff Hutchison and Peter Lynn, is a “dose of Last Known Whereabouts, a dash of Deputies, a smidgen of Big Wu and Mr. Sticky to taste” playing a rock and jazz fusion.
The Over & Back Band, made up of Faribault resident Mike Hildebrandt (fiddle) and Northfield natives Steve Jennings (drums), Craig Wasner (keyboard) and Gordon Oschwald (bass), play bluegrass, swing and jazz.
The acoustic high school band, Beverage Men, includes Northfielders Kai Legvold, Robby Swenson and Dave Shelby.
Event organizer Pauline Shuster Jennings, host of the local radio show Musician Talk, says the venue “is designed to allow for 90 vehicles to be physically distanced with room for goers to set up their own chairs near their own vehicles.” So, be sure to bring a place to sit if you don’t want to stay in your car. Goers will be asked to stay with their own vehicles to ensure physical distancing. They are also partnering with Community Action Center of Northfield to accept donations of non-perishable items for the food and goods bank. Current essential needs include baby necessities, feminine hygiene products, personal hygiene and detergents.
Reservations and dinner orders are required in advance. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for reservations, more information and a link to donate to Community Action Center of Northfield.
