Lakeville Area Arts Center

By Ronica Roberson

Lakeville Area Arts Center resides in the former All Saints Catholic Church, which was built in 1932. When the church moved to a larger building the City of Lakeville purchased the building to house the Arts Center and the building was completely renovated inside.

The Arts Center offers educational classes, theater events, concerts and art exhibits. The theater space inside can be set with theater seating for up to 300 or converted to a space for tables and chairs to just rows of chairs. The Arts Center hosts a full series of tribute concerts each year including Pink Floyd and Queen tributes.

The classroom portion of the Arts Center boasts a fully stocked pottery studio with 10 pottery wheels, a slab roller, extruder and three electric kilns, as well as 300 in-studio mixed glazes for students to choose from. The Center also offers acrylic, watercolor and oil (including a nature-based class at Ritter Farm Park) painting classes for adults and acrylic and watercolor classes for kids.

There are several art gallery/display spaces both inside and outside the Arts Center. Outside the Arts Center is the Art Walk, a path than curves around the building and features sculptures and murals, mostly created during the annual art festival in collaboration with the community, but also including pieces that the Arts Center has commissioned from local Minnesota artists. Lakeville Area Arts Center’s outdoor Art Walk area hosts three major events every year, the Taste of Lakeville, Pan-O-Prog and the Lakeville Arts Festival (third weekend in September). About 10,000 people walk through the Art Walk during these events.
