Watercolor Polariods

By Sarah Hooyer

What is entertainment to me? Creating art! By day I am a graphic designer at By All Means Graphics/The Entertainment Guide, but by night I love to explore other art media. Currently, my favorite medium is watercolor. I discovered a trend through Pinterest (an image sharing service) where the artist paints small Polaroid-type pieces. Instead of a photo, you paint sceneries or still life images. This project was very fun to create. My series consists of 24 Polaroids and includes images from cities to mountains to deserts, pineapples to sea turtles and boats to trains. The process begins with creating a canvas by trimming watercolor paper to the correct size and measuring the art location. Next, you sketch out your design and paint. My favorite piece of the series is not a real place at all. It comes from a different form of entertainment, a movie that I can watch repeatedly, Tangled. The Polaroid shows my favorite scene – lanterns floating away from the castle. Watercolor and movies are some forms of entertainment for me. What is entertainment for you?
