Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra: Haydn’s The Hen Symphony
Fans of more traditional classical music will delight in this airy program that highlights music from the 18th century. SPCO flutists Julia Bogorad-Kogan and Alicia McQuerrey team up for a spritely double concerto that will keep you on the edge of your seat with its momentum – a similar feel to the titular symphony by Joseph Haydn whose theme earned its nickname from the uneven gait of a hen. In addition to the breathy woodwinds, you’ll hear from strings, with a soulful solo by violinist Eunice Kim and a more contemporary work for string orchestra rooted in the fiddling traditions of the composer’s native Finland. Tickets: $53-$73, available at sheldontheatre.thundertix.com.
