Acoustic Music on the Patio: John Kerns
Kerns has played professionally in Minneapolis for the past 11 years in many groups and combos but primarily for Spirit Garage, “The Church With the Really Big Door.” Recently, he has formed his own band, Kerns and the Hemispheres. This spicy mélange of rock, pop, colorful chord progressions and high-energy harmonies push the boundaries of modern pop and rock. In addition to the bands at Spirit Garage, Kerns has played bass and sang with Scott Laurent, Jonathan Rundman, Natalie Lovejoy, Nikki Schultz and Lloyd Garrelts. Kerns has also recorded projects for Faith Inkubators, Augsburg Fortress, Lutheran Youth Encounter, Children’s Hospitals and Clinics and Seraphim Communications. Kerns and the Hemispheres are versatile enough to perform in large music clubs, coffee houses, theatres, churches and outdoor stages. In addition to often playing 3 hours of music, their list of covers songs is extensive including The Eagles, Simon & Garfunkel, Sade, Phish, Blue Oyster Cult, The Beatles, Lenny Kravitz, Elton John, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Stevie Wonder, Kansas, Tom Petty, Genesis, Men at Work and more.
