Sowah Mensah and the Macalester African Music Ensemble
The Fesler-Lampert Performing Arts Series presents Sowah Mensah, a renowned ethnomusicologist and “master drummer” from Ghana, West Africa. Mensah is a prominent figure in both academia and performance. He serves as a music professor at Macalester College and the University of St. Thomas, directing their African Music Ensembles. He also directs the African Music Ensemble at the University of Minnesota. Additionally, he leads Sankofa, a Ghanaian Folklore and Dance Ensemble, and performs in Speaking in Tongues, a unique quartet blending percussion and a Chinese pipa player.
