Work-In-Progress Documentary Screening: The Furious Light

This free event will feature a freshly mixed cut of the documentary The Furious Light. Grappling with the gap between artistic longing and lived reality, a once-rising local singer/songwriter excavates his past in search of a reason to keep singing. Built from 35 years of archival footage, performances, journals and interviews, the film follows filmmaker and musician David Ullman back to his childhood home in rural Ohio, where he interviews his father, uncle and brother about the dreams, disappointments and shared history that shaped them. Together, the Ullman Boys reconsider success, belonging and creative fulfillment. The screening will be followed by a conversation facilitated by FY2025 SEMAC Emerging Artist Grant recipient Nat Wilson and with sound designer Kent Militzer and David Ullman about how sound design shapes mood, narrative and emotional impact in documentary storytelling. Doors at 6pm, screening at 6:30pm (88 minutes), discussion to follow.
