The City of Farmington is a growing community with nearly 24,000 residents. The city has many great restaurants, shops and more. If you are looking for a day out, Farmington is a perfect choice.

farmingtonWe recommend taking a shot at ax throwing, bowling, golfing, or the batting cages found in town for the active person. There are some excellent golfing spots, snowmobile trails, and hiking options near Farmington that also make for a fun day!

Don’t miss the stores on Third and Oak streets. In the summer, the Farmington Mall holds a farmers market where you will find fresh produce, jams, flowers and much more. Farmington boasts an array of delicious cuisine, including burgers, ice cream, quesadillas, barbeque and stir fry. There are delicious coffees, baked goods and beer, too.

farmingtonThere are many local businesses to discover in Farmington. You can view a list of them at FarmingtonMN.gov/Favor. While you’re visiting, take a walk through the historic downtown to view the beautiful architecture. Don’t forget to stroll through the Depot Way Art Walk to enjoy sculptures and take a picture in the giant blue chair.

The City has many great trails and parks to visit as well. Parks and Recreation is busy all year planning kid’s camps, adult recreation leagues, craft fairs, fundraisers and more. Rambling River Center hosts the Arts and Crafts Fair on May 8. Right on the Vermillion River, Rambling River is a designated trout stream, so you are in luck if you like to fish. There are several walking bridges over the Vermillion that are great for fishing. Take your pole to the piers at Lake Julia Park or Prairie View Park, too. Rambling River Park has a playground, tennis courts and a trail along the Vermillion. The park holds many events in the summer, such as Music in the Park and Party in the Park. Residents either drive to these events or take the trails to get there. On a nice day, explore the connecting trails in Farmington. Don’t forget to enjoy the boardwalks in Meadowview Park and Vermillion Grove Park. There are 26 playgrounds located in our parks, can you find them all?

farmingtonIn the summer, the Dakota County Fairgrounds are fun to visit as well. This year’s Dakota County Fair is planned for Aug. 9-15 and is always fun for finding new deep-fried foods to try, visiting with farm animals, watching lumberjacks and the races and catching a ride on the Ferris wheel.

We hope you’ll stop by soon to visit and get to know Farmington more!
